realtek hda vista beta 2

I've installed Vista Beta (b5384) on modified Gateway SE4 E-2500s (P4 3.0GHz 630/1Gb DDR2/i915GV/SATA150 160Gb) with Realtek HDA audio device and i915 graphic. Graphics works well, but sound... After I startup system, sound works. I can listen music, watch DVD, everything okay. But in 10-15 minutes, WMP stop playing music with message that file can't be played. I tried to install WinAMP, and WinAMP can't play with message that Primary DirectSound buffer couldn't be created. The PC have additionally two jacks on front panel, which are treated in the system as separate sound device (look attachment). So, usually I'm using just speakers, but when I want to listen through headphones, which are connected to fron jack, I've to change to second audio device. After I've just installed Vista I could change it, but now I could switch to headphones only after speakers' device failed. Does anyone know solution for this? I tried to look for latest drivers in Intel, Realtek web sites, but I couldn't found anything about Vista's drivers, even beta drivers.

I have very similar problem with my ALC880 HDA audio device with Vista x64 beta 5384 and Realtek Vista beta driver dated 2006/6/30. This latest driver looks successfully installed and ALC880 Audio Output is submitting some sound signal. I noticed this is working by the green bar animation in the Speakers icon in the High Definition Audio Device property screen. This screen is available through sound icon in CP and it is what you attached in your original mail. However I cannot hear any sound from speakers. I am suspecting this is because I cannot have speakers cable plugged into correct ALC880 output terminals (one out of four, i.e. Front, Rear, Surround, Center + Subwoofer) Usually this plug assignment is programmable in HDA but in case of x64 Realtek ALC880 driver won't allow this plug assignment possible. I'm sure this is correct because the Plugged Into of my Speakers property tells it is connected to Center + Subwoofer. This assignment could not be corrected even when I change the speakers plugged in location physically. In case of Vista x86 beta 5384 the same Realtek ALC880 driver (which is valid for both x86 and x64) this plug allocation is programmable and you can easily allocate which plug will correspond to Front or others. So you can listen HDA quality sound through ALC880 under Vista.

Well this is self updates to my previous posting. I have set the speaker cable to the predefined front output on the mother board and tried again installing the Realtek Vista beta driver under x64 Vista 5384. Then everything went perfect. When I opened Speakers property (which is available through CP>Sound>Audio Devices>Speakers) I noticed "Plugged Into" tells it is connected as FL FR (Front Left and Front Right) This is what I intended and my ALC880 generates correct sound signal to my front speakers.
This is also true under x86 Vista 5384. In case of x86 Vista the forementioned plug information is available through Realtek Sound Manager tool rather than CP.

I use an Abit AN8 with onboard sound by Realtek. The NV provided (since it is an NF4 board) beta drivers were crap for Vista with bad stutters and a total loss of sound after a few minutes. I simply installed the XP based sound drivers and it works fantastic now. Mileage may vary based on hardware....
Other than video drivers, you can use many XP based drivers for hardware.
